District News: Student Optimists Shine at Annual Awards Banquet

The East Utica Optimist Club recently recognized three outstanding Utica City School District students for their positivity, perseverance, and leadership. Congratulations to Alexandria Martin (Columbus Elementary), Aralynn Hernandez (Albany Elementary), and Irma Halmanovic (Conkling Elementary) for receiving this year’s Optimist Awards!

Lexie Martin is known for her hardworking spirit, big heart, and deep appreciation for learning. Her teacher, Mrs. Stephanie Payne, describes her as wise beyond her years and always ready to give her best, both in the classroom and in the way she cares for others.

Albany sixth grader Aralynn Hernandez lights up every room she enters. A natural leader and the recent recipient of her class’s “Most Likely to Become President” superlative, Aralynn is thoughtful, confident, and committed to helping her peers and school community thrive. Whether she’s crafting bracelets with a friend or organizing the classroom cleanup crew, she brings care and creativity to everything she does.

Irma Halmanovic of Conkling Elementary rounds out this inspiring trio with her quiet strength, kindness, and determination. Honored for her optimism and perseverance, Irma is a shining example of what it means to lead with character.

The Utica City School District is proud of these exceptional young leaders and looks forward to watching them continue to make their schools and the world better every day.
