The federal McKinney-Vento Homeless Assistance Actis a law that guarantees the educational rights and protections of children and youth experiencing homelessness, ensuring they have access to free, appropriate public education. The Act defines homeless broadly to include students who lack a "fixed, regular, and adequate" nighttime residence.
